The Madeira School Virginia
The Madeira School is a college-preparatory boarding school for girls in grades 9-12. Originally, the school was located in Washington, D.C. The current campus is located in suburban Mclean, Virginia. The campus consists of 34 separate buildings, most of which overlook the Potomac River.
There are more than 300 students enrolled in the school. More than half of them reside in dormitories on the school grounds. The fascinating history of the school includes tails of mystery and murder. However, it is the academic excellence which attracts international students from several countries. As such, the school has some of the highest enrollment of international students in the United States.
Its unique co-curriculum makes it mandatory for students to attend outdoor adventure program in the first year followed by community service in the second year. The third year is devoted to getting real-life experience with a Congressmen or Senator at the Capitol Hill. Students pursue an internship of their choice in the last two semesters.
At Madeira, every student is exposed to globalization including discussions on important international issues. Beside study-abroad program, Madeira students are regularly taken on trips throughout the United States, enhancing their appetite to absorb information from a multicultural perspective.
