St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is a private preparatory boarding and day school located in Austin, Texas. Enrollment for the school is at around 665, with 205 students in Grades 6-8 and 460 in Grades 9-12 . The campus of St. Stephen’s overlooks Lake Austin in the Texas Hill Country and is just over 370 acres.

The school was founded by Bishop John E. Hines in 1950 with most of its support coming from the Episcopal Church. The school played a small part in the 20th Century Civil Rights Movement as the very first co-ed Episcopal school of its time in the US.

St. Stephen’s is overseen by a board of trustees, which is comprised of its alumni and community leaders. A head of school is appointed by this board with final consent coming from the Bishop of Texas. All the rules or the school are voted upon by its faculty.

Being an Episcopal school, chapel services are held most mornings as well as a weekly church service that is held on Sunday mornings. The Chapel of St. Stephen’s features a traditional Christian worship service. This service can sometimes include guest speakers.

The current chaplain which serves the school is Father Todd FitzGerald. Not only does Father FitzGerald conduct chapel services he also teaches theology to the 8th grade class.
