One of the oldest boarding schools in Texas, San Marcos Baptist Academy was founded in 1907 and is located on a 220-acre campus near San Marcos, Texas. This Christian-oriented boarding and day school focuses on a coed student body in grades 7-12. The school’s academic focus is primarily college prep, although there is also an extensive junior ROTC program as well as a number of athletic teams, ranging from football and basketball to tennis and track. San Marcos Baptist Academy also offers equestrian and 4-H programs. One of the unique programs at the school is its Academy Challenge Course. That program encourages participants to “challenge by choice” to tackle difficult physical and mental challenges. Assisted by a team of course facilitators, the program is designed to build the confidence of participants and give them the interpersonal skills to solve challenges faced in their post-academic careers. While the student body is comprised primarily of Texas residents, the current crop of students includes people from 12 different countries and several other states.
