School Profile
Bachman Academy (Tennessee)
Located on 188 acres near Mc Donald, Tennessee, Bachman Academy was created to cater to students who have various types of learning challenges. Those problems can include Autism, Apsergers, Attention Deficit Disorder, Hyperactivity and/or other stumbling blocks that can make it more difficult for these students to thrive academically.
The school has a low teacher-to-student ratio (about 5:1) and each student’s learning curriculum is tailored to their individual strengths and weaknesses. This intense teaching approach allows students to grow at their own pace, without feeling the social pressures they might encounter in a traditional school.
Many of these students also struggle with sensory problems, including sensitivity to sounds and/or lights. Bachman Academy has trained counselors on site to assist students as they work through these challenges. The school also has several vocational programs that also function as therapeutic outlets for the students. These include auto mechanics, woodworking, horsemanship and horticulture.
Since many of the students come from other parts of the United States, there is also an after-hours program in place for students who live in one of the residential dorms. Those activities include off-campus trips as well as the use of the school’s extensive collection of recreational facilities.
