The Washington Academy is a boarding school located in East Machias, Maine within Washington County. Since its inception in 1792, the school has been inviting students from both genders with equal percentages making education equality to be its core practice. The current number of students enrolled at the Washington Academy stands at 436 while the number of qualified teachers is 48 translating to a low student-teacher ratio. The East Machias area is a remote rural area, making the location of the school to be ideal for learning because it is a safe environment. The Washington Academy in Maine produces students that qualify for matriculation with the percentage standing at 70, which is a sizable number. John Hancock was responsible for signing the charter that helped found the school in the eighteenth century. In order to ease the process of admission, the school has an admissions director that oversees the admission process for both local and international students seeking to join this prestigious school. Being one of the oldest learning institutions in East Machias, the school has been addressing education needs effectively, making it to be one of the best school choices.
