Idaho is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It borders the state of Montana to the east and northeast, Wyoming to the east, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Washington and Oregon to the west. To the north, it shares a small portion of the Canadian border with the province of British Columbia. 

Education in Idaho (ID), USA

As of April 2015, there are 115 districts in Idaho. Some districts operate one school, others operate several dozen schools and boarding schools. School districts are organized around geographic lines.

All Idaho children between the ages of 7 and 16 must be enrolled in public, homeschool, or boarding school. Kindergartners must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 of their first school year.

All students graduating from Idaho public high schools or boarding schools must meet state-adopted content standards. These standards are to be used as a minimum threshold by every school district in the state in order to establish some consistency in academic content statewide.

It is up to each local school district to adopt its own curriculum (how the standards are taught) to meet these standards. Idaho reviews and revises, when needed, all content standards on a six-year review/adoption cycle.

The state has specific requirements about the types of courses students much take, as well as additional requirements such as a senior project and a college entrance exam.  Each high school has its own specific graduation requirements. Idaho encourages students to focus on what’s most important by requiring each student to complete what the Idaho Department of Education requires in order to graduate. Students must complete a minimum of 46 credits to graduate in the state of Idaho.
