The Thacher School (California)
The Thacher School is located in the Ojai Valley of southern California. This picturesque school, which overlooks the Ojai Mountains, is located only 45 miles from Santa Barbara and about 85 miles from Los Angeles. This student is mainly composed of students who live on campus; however, about 10 percent of the population lives within the community and commutes. The student body is very diverse. 40% of the population is students of color and 51% of all students live outside of California in over 25 states. This college preparatory school offers a vast array of classes, including many Advanced Placement courses and several several honors. They also allow students to learn four languages: French, Chinese, Spanish and Latin. The average class size, around 11 students per class, allows for students to have the one-on-one attention with teachers and other administrators. At Thacher, the learning experience expands past the classroom. The students use the natural environment in the Ojai Mountains as their real world classroom. The school offers several camping trips for students on campus. Other students also choose to spend some time studying abroad in other areas in the United States. The school also has almost 30 competitive sports teams for girls and boys.
