School Profile
Dunn School (California)
Dunn School is a coeducational private boarding school located in Los Olivos, California. It is a preparatory school from grade 6 through 12 offering intensive education to its students. Almost 60 percent of students live on campus, whereas the school provides transportation to most other day students residing in nearby Santa Barbara. Dunn School has some of the lowest student to teacher ratio, ensuring that each student gets personal attention from teachers who help in carving plans for entering college. As such, almost all teachers at school know their students, personally. Currently, there are 250 students with a class size of 11 and a student-teacher ratio of only 4:1. To improve critical thinking and problem solving skills, classes are taught in seminar-style. The campus is spread over 55 acres, which provides enough opportunities for students to participate in 16 interscholastic sports. According to school’s tradition, each student must participate in at least one team during a season. The emphasis on sports led to several students advancing to varsity sports in college. Similarly, every student must also participate in numerous hands-on events and outdoor activities. Students at Dunn School also get entrepreneurship opportunities through Earwig Cafe, a student run enterprise.
