Cate School (California)
From its humble beginnings in 1910 to the current fame, Cate School is a testament to the commitment of its headmasters. The coeducational facility is a highly selective boarding school located in Carpinteria, just a few miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, in California. Currently, there are around 234 students enrolled from 31 different states and many international countries. The school prepares students for college life by integrating a curriculum that blends with the spirit of community work. Its founder, the legendary Wolsey Cate, had a tradition of reading storybooks to students and shaking hands with everyone. The 100-year-old tradition continues to this day. Every week, students also help with menial chores that are often relegated to the maintenance staff. The Student-Faculty Senate is involved in shaping the legislation of school and advising on important matters. Students can select from more than 101 courses taught at the school. There are more than 40 advanced and honors courses, which are highly respected by admission officers of top colleges in the United States. High-level courses include such diverse subjects as Oceanography, Comparative Government and Film Studies. in collaboration with nearby schools, the school holds several outdoor and indoor sports events on its grounds.
